Become a driving instructor

It’s not easy being a driving instructor.

But it’s not hard either…providing you get the right training!

And the benefits are tempting – you’re your own boss, you work the hours YOU want to work, take holidays when you want to and being a driving instructor is a job with great job satisfaction. There’s nothing like the buzz you get when the person you taught from scratch passes their driving test…first time!

Teaching people to drive is a secure and long lasting career too. There’s a never ending supply of seventeen year olds who just can’t wait to get behind the wheel and once you get a reputation as a patient, friendly instructor with a decent pass rate the phone never stops ringing.

The earnings can be good too.  If you charge £25 per hour, work seven hours a day, five days a week you’ll gross £875 every week. That’s £42,000 a year. Of course, you need to deduct fuel, the cost of the car, your phone bill etc. but you should still earn a decent amount.

Sounds good?

The qualifying process is pretty simple. Providing you meet the DVSA criteria:

  • have held a driving licence for at least 3 years
  • be able to read a licence plate at 90 feet (27.5m) – glasses or contact lenses are okay
  • complete and pass enhanced criminal records and motoring conviction checks

and you have excellent people skills (absolutely vital) you can start the process today.
